LAHORE, Nov 29 (APP): Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadiq Malik stressed the alignment between climate policy and productivity-led growth. He said Pakistan’s energy future depends on “cleaner, smarter, and more efficient systems,” and green productivity strengthens both energy security and national resilience. He noted the country’s 17 per cent voluntary NDC commitment, adding that shrinking multilateral climate financing poses challenges for nations striving for rapid green economic growth.
He was speaking at the concluding session of the two-day Asian Productivity Organization (APO) International Conference on Green Productivity 2.0 (GP 2.0), jointly organised by the LUMS Energy Institute (LEI), National Productivity Organisation (NPO), and the Federal Ministry of Industries and Production, held at LUMS on Saturday.
On this occasion, Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has said that green productivity is no longer merely an environmental choice but an economic necessity for developing countries like Pakistan.
Ahsan Iqbal highlighted Pakistan’s ambitious targets for 2035, which include achieving over 6 per cent productivity-driven GDP growth, 100 billion dollars in exports, a 30 per cent reduction in emissions intensity, universal climate-resilient infrastructure, 60 per cent clean energy, creation of two million green and high-tech jobs, and integration into Asian green supply chains.
Representing parliamentary leadership, MNA Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Convener of the Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs, underscored the importance of development priorities aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. She said green productivity ensures economic progress alongside environmental protection and social well-being — a balance essential for a sustainable Pakistan.
The two-day conference brought together senior government representatives, industry leaders, academics, and experts from 21 APO member economies, with over 80 foreign delegates participating — making it one of Pakistan’s most significant international forums on sustainable industrial transformation.
The event featured plenary sessions, keynotes, and sectoral discussions under the advanced GP 2.0 framework. Topics included sustainable architecture, industrial growth, energy efficiency, circular economy, energy transition, digital productivity tools, green hydrogen, thin-film photovoltaics, and green initiatives in the power, oil, and gas sectors. Experts from Italy, Japan, Thailand, China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Turkiye, Vietnam and other APO economies presented innovative research and applied solutions shaping green productivity in Asia.
APO Secretariat representative Zainuri Juri praised Pakistan’s leadership on the GP agenda, calling its commitment “exemplary across member economies.”
Reflecting on the conference outcomes, Dr. Fiaz Chaudhry, Senior Advisor at LUMS Energy Institute, and Alamgir Chaudhry, CEO of NPO, emphasized the importance of strong collaboration across government, academia, and industry. Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost of LUMS, commended the active participation of delegates and said the insights gained would support Pakistan’s transition toward cleaner, competitive, and productivity-driven industrial growth.
The international conference concluded with a renewed regional commitment to sustainable industrial development, deeper cross-sector partnerships, and support for Pakistan’s shift toward a low-carbon, innovation-led, and globally competitive industrial economy.
