ABBOTTABAD, Nov 29 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sarmad Saleem Akram chaired a review meeting on the ongoing Measles and Rubella (MR) and Polio vaccination campaign, where the performance of health teams, outreach efforts, and daily reporting was comprehensively examined.
The meeting was attended by the MS DHQ, District Health Officer Abbottabad, Assistant Commissioners, WHO Area Coordinators, Health Coordinators, District Surveillance Officer, and representatives of the Private Schools Association.
Officials briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the progress of the ninth and tenth days of the campaign. According to the report, MR coverage reached 93% on day nine and 99% on day ten, while Polio (OPV) coverage was recorded at 98% and 99% respectively.
DC Sarmad Saleem Akram directed all field teams to focus specifically on school coverages in the next phase and ensure that all missed and refusal cases are fully addressed. He further instructed low-performing union councils to continue operations on Sunday as a catch-up day to achieve 100% target coverage.
The meeting was informed that police deployment has been ensured in Baldhairi to deal with MMP refusal cases, ensuring all reported areas are effectively covered. The Deputy Commissioner also ordered that cases of schools refusing the MR vaccine be forwarded to the Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) for cancellation of their registration.
It was highlighted that community influencers, village secretaries, and councillors played an active role in raising public awareness about the MR vaccination drive.
Authorities appealed to parents to immediately vaccinate children aged six months to five years to effectively prevent the spread of measles and rubella across the district.
