Price Control dept launches crackdown against hoarders, profiteers

LAHORE, Nov 27 (APP): The Price Control and Commodities Management department has launched crackdown against hoarders and profiteers in line with the direction of the Punjab government.
A spokesman for the department said here on Thursday over 58,000 areas were inspected across Punjab. He said that action had been taken against 4,627 illegal profiteers besides imposing a fine of more than Rs 5 million on them.
Price Control department checked 6,265 ‘Tandoors’ and hotels and took action against those selling ‘Roti’ against fixed rate, he added.
Spokesman said that the department also checked the sale of sugar at more than 3,700 places across the province to ensure provision of sugar at notified price. He said that 483 profiteers were found involved in selling sugar at higher prices. A fine of Rs 890,000 was imposed on selling of sugar at high rates. He further said that 33 sugar profiteers were arrested while 8 shops and warehouses were sealed and their owners were arrested.
Spokesman said, “Punjab government has made it clear that illegal profiteering and hoarding will not be tolerated at all.” He said that strict legal action would be taken against those found involved in such activities.
