ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 (APP):The National Assembly on Thursday informed that the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has approached the Finance Division to secure a supplementary grant for the procurement of 50 additional school buses to address transport shortages in Islamabad’s federal schools and colleges.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan regarding insufficient student transport facilities in the capital’s educational institutions, Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education and Professional Training Farah Naz Akbar acknowledged that the current fleet was inadequate for growing needs.
She told the House that the ministry had already initiated the process for additional funding.
“We are going to approach the Finance Division for a supplementary grant, and that will be coming in the third week of January for about 50 more buses. Insha’Allah, we hope the Finance will help and assist us in this,” she said.
Addressing concerns raised by Anjum Aqeel about long-distance rural areas, she informed the House that the ministry was also operating a fleet of 22 pink buses serving girls’ schools in rural and K-areas of Islamabad.
“As far as the pink buses are concerned, we have 22 buses running across rural areas. We have also approached the Finance Ministry for the budget to help us with a supplementary grant so that we can get more buses,” she added.
She assured the member that constituency-specific requirements would be reviewed and that the ministry would facilitate additional allocations where needed.
Anjum Aqeel, highlighting that his constituency comprises nearly 60 schools and one degree college, urged that at least five to six buses be provided for girls studying in far-flung localities.
The Calling Attention Notice underscored growing public concern over the lack of adequate transport facilities in federal educational institutions across Islamabad.
