ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 (APP):In a move to align Pakistan’s social protection efforts with future skill demands, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Thursday opened formal discussions on collaborating to train BISP beneficiaries in emerging and market-driven technologies.
The meeting, held at the BISP Headquarters, was chaired by BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid and co-chaired by Secretary BISP Amer Ali Ahmad. Senior officials from the Benazir Hunarmand Programme (BHP) also joined the discussion.
The UNIDO delegation was led by National Programme Coordinator Badar-ul-Islam, accompanied by National Technical Advisor Farooque Ahmed Siddiqui.
Secretary BISP briefed the delegation on the vision and framework of the Benazir Hunarmand Programme, describing it as a major step toward enhancing the employability of low-income households, particularly in sectors shaped by technological transformation.
He highlighted possible areas where UNIDO’s industrial expertise could support the development of modern, demand-oriented skill pathways for beneficiaries and their families.
UNIDO officials shared insights into the organization’s PAIDAR project currently underway in Sindh and conveyed strong interest in forging a partnership with BISP under the BHP umbrella to expand access to quality technical training.
Both sides agreed to continue technical-level engagement to identify specific areas of cooperation aimed at preparing BISP beneficiaries for emerging job markets through advanced skill training.
