ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 (APP):Pakistan has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the GSP+ framework and the promotion and protection of human rights during a meeting between Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and a visiting delegation from the European Union (EU).
The Minister briefed the EU delegation on Pakistan’s progress in advancing human rights, highlighting steps taken to fulfill obligations under the 27 United Nations conventions linked to the GSP+ arrangement. He underscored the government’s ongoing legislative and policy initiatives aimed at protecting women, children, workers, and marginalized communities.
The delegation was also apprised of measures adopted to safeguard freedom of expression and ensure the security and well-being of media professionals.
Senator Tarar reiterated the government’s resolve to strengthen institutional mechanisms that promote accountability and uphold fundamental rights.
The EU delegation shared its recommendations for further improvements, which Pakistan welcomed and pledged to implement. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing reporting systems, deepening provincial engagement, and reinforcing implementation frameworks to sustain progress under the GSP+ scheme.
The Government of Pakistan expressed appreciation for the EU’s continued cooperation and acknowledged the shared efforts to advance human rights in line with international commitments. The delegation’s visit will include detailed discussions on priority areas and progress related to the 27 UN conventions associated with GSP+.
