Special Secretary Arshad Baig, Project Director Brigadier Asad Mahmood and Additional Secretary Ahmar Kaifi also attended the meeting.
Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique said that the Punjab Development Program was a major project to provide municipal facilities in cities, under which construction and repair of drains and sewage systems will be ensured in small and big cities. “In addition, he went on, “underground tanks will be built for rainwater storage. Rehabilitation of roads and streets and installation of street lights are also part of this program”.
The Minister said that in the first phase of PDP, tenders for development schemes have been issued in 13 cities. “In this regard, the needs of the population of the cities for the next 25 years are being kept in mind”. He reiterated the commitment that municipal services would be provided to 200 cities of Punjab in phases. The provincial minister directed the project director to keep the timeline in mind at all times saying that “there would be no compromise on transparency, quality and speed during the work on the project”.
Zeeshan Rafique said that the PDP would provide a comprehensive solution to the growing problem of urban flooding. “The chief officers of the concerned municipal bodies should also be involved during the work on the schemes. The details of the progress in each development scheme should be uploaded on the dashboard”, he urged.
