FAISALABAD, Nov 26 (APP): Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) Chief Executive Officer Engr. Muhammad Aamir has announced that the company is implementing an extensive up-gradation plan, including installation of new transformers before March, to ensure uninterrupted and reliable electricity supply during the upcoming summer season.
Speaking at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), he said most major technical issues had been resolved, including those in Koh-e-Noor City. He noted that underground power lines are being laid in eight bazaars, which will improve safety, curb power theft and strengthen supply reliability.
Aamir said system stability had significantly improved with the construction of a new 500kV grid station, where two circuits are complete and the remaining will be operational within days. He added that although national power consumption has decreased due to solarisation, demand in Faisalabad has risen sharply, making supply management more challenging. Nevertheless, FESCO has completed the groundwork to maintain a stable system.
He also highlighted a reduction in industrial electricity tariffs from Rs.46 to Rs.40.30 per unit, expressing hope for further cuts. He said the introduction of AMI meters will ensure accurate billing, prevent overbilling complaints and allow solar users to draw power directly from their systems during outages.
FCCI President Farooq Yousaf Sheikh, welcoming the CEO, said electricity is vital for economic growth but high tariffs are hurting exports and industrial operations. He called for uniform power rates, an increase in the solar installation limit from 5kV to 15–20kV, and cheaper electricity for industries running at just 40–50% capacity due to high costs. He urged greater hydel power generation, citing the long-pending demand for the Chiniot Dam.
The FCCI leadership appreciated FESCO for maintaining low line losses and achieving 100% recovery rates. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from FCCI Vice President Engr. Asim Munir and the presentation of an FCCI collar pin and shield to the FESCO chief. Representatives from the business community participated in a question-and-answer session.
