Police impose Rs1.013m fine for smog SOPs violations

LAHORE, Nov 26 (APP):Punjab Police registered 15 cases, arrested offenders, and imposed fines totalling Rs. 1.013 million on 483 individuals during the last 24 hours as part of ongoing operations to curb smog, air pollution, and protect the environment across various districts, including Lahore.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson on Wednesday, 43 individuals were also issued warnings. The violations included 280 by smoke-emitting vehicles, three related to industrial activities, and eight by brick kilns.
So far this year, a total of 2,911 cases have been registered, 2,587 lawbreakers arrested, and fines exceeding Rs. 232.1 million imposed on 97,924 individuals, while 13,689 received warnings. Year-to-date violations include 1,777 crop residue burning cases, 59,053 smoke-emitting vehicle violations, 1,401 industrial violations, and 2,226 brick kiln violations.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed officers to further intensify anti-smog operations on highways, industrial zones, agricultural sites, and other locations under a zero-tolerance policy for violators of Smog SOPs.
