MULTAN, Nov 26 (APP):Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Iqbal Hussain Khan has announced that his country will soon launch a fast-track e-visa system enabling applicants to obtain visas within 24 hours — a move he described as “a significant step toward easing travel and boosting bilateral trade”.
He made the remarks during a visit to the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), where he met Chamber President Mian Bakhtawar Tanveer Sheikh and senior office-bearers.
Khan underscored the “historic and brotherly relations” between Pakistan and Bangladesh, highlighting cultural affinity and longstanding commercial cooperation between the two nations. He said Bangladesh, a major exporter of rice, is keen to supply fresh pineapples to Pakistan, while strong consumer interest persists in Multan’s renowned mango varieties, especially Chaunsa and Anwar Ratol. He also discussed prospects for mango imports with local growers.
The envoy noted that Bangladesh sees strong potential for Pakistani industrial goods, agricultural products and textiles in its market, and expressed interest in expanding joint ventures, industrial cooperation and investment.
MCCI President Mian Bakhtawar Tanveer Sheikh said bilateral engagement had strengthened over the past year, with visible progress in trade and economic collaboration. He pointed out that Bangladesh’s exports have crossed USD 50 billion, driven primarily by its thriving textile sector. He added that Multan’s premium mangoes could secure a strong international presence with improved trade facilitation.
Sheikh urged Bangladesh to enhance exhibitions and tourism promotion activities, proposing Pakistan-based tour packages featuring Multan, Lahore and the northern regions to deepen cultural exchange and attract Bangladeshi tourists.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism that the forthcoming e-visa system will enhance business mobility and unlock new opportunities for trade and cultural connectivity.
