ISLAMABAD, Nov 26 (APP):German Ambassador to Pakistan, Ms. Ina Lepel, called on National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at the Parliament House,where they discussed Pakistan–Germany bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted that Pakistan and Germany enjoy long-standing and cooperative bilateral relations, and emphasized that parliamentary and people-to-people linkages are of vital importance in strengthening these ties. Both sides agreed on enhancing parliamentary exchanges to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
Speaker informed the Ambassador that the Parliament has the distinction of being the first parliament in the world to be fully powered by solar energy, reflecting Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable development.
While underscoring Parliament’s commitment to social justice and inclusive governance, he stated that the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus and the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights of the National Assembly are working diligently to protect the rights of women and children in the country.
Discussing regional security, Speaker expressed grave concern over the recent surge in terrorist incidents in Pakistan, noting that their linkages have been traced to Afghanistan. He added that Afghan soil continues to be misused for terrorism against Pakistan, which remains a serious regional challenge. He also stated that Pakistan has hosted more than 4 million Afghan refugees for the past four decades, reflecting Pakistan’s humanitarian commitment despite its own economic constraints.
Speaker reiterated that all religions categorically reject extremism and terrorism, and stressed that peaceful resolution of conflicts is essential for regional security and stability.
He added that parliamentary diplomacy can play a meaningful role in fostering mutual understanding and strengthening bilateral relations.
Highlighting steps taken for gender equality, NA Speaker apprised the Ambassador that a Special Committee on Gender Mainstreaming, comprising members from both Houses, has been established to advance legislative reforms and institutional mechanisms for women’s empowerment.
On climate change, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq noted that Pakistan is among the countries most vulnerable to climate-related disasters.
He called for collaborative international efforts to address the global climate challenge.
Speaker underscored that Pakistan’s contributions and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism are unparalleled, noting that no other nation has endured such immense human and economic losses in pursuit of global peace and security.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and stressed that the country remains fully dedicated to promoting regional stability, international peace, and constructive cooperation with the global community.
Ambassador Ina Lepel appreciated Pakistan’s democratic progress, and ongoing reform efforts. She commended the initiatives undertaken for promoting gender equality and protecting children’s rights.
The Ambassador reaffirmed Germany’s desire to further enhance parliamentary engagement with Pakistan, as well as cooperation in the economic and social sectors.
