LAHORE, Nov 26 (APP):Punjab University (PU) Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) organised a one-day seminar on ‘Practical Steps in Patent Drafting and Filing’ at the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, here on Wednesday.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Director ORIC Engr Prof Dr Aqil Inam, renowned IP attorney and consultant Engr Saad Nasrullah, President PIMME Prof Dr Saleem Shuja, Deputy Directors ORIC Prof Dr Ghazala Yasmeen Butt and Syed Amer Hussain, faculty members and students attended the seminar.
Addressing the participants, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali appreciated ORIC’s initiatives and urged faculty members to enhance their understanding of practical patent drafting and filing processes. He said such training activities would contribute to improving the university’s international ranking. Highlighting evolving academic needs, he noted that students learn “30 percent from classrooms and 70 percent from outside,” underscoring the importance of preparing them to adapt to diverse environments. He emphasized the significance of applied research and patenting new technologies and expressed satisfaction over ORIC’s efforts.
Earlier, Dr Aqil welcomed the guests and participants, and outlined ORIC’s role in promoting a strong research culture and facilitating commercialization of university-developed technologies. Engr Saad Nasrullah also delivered a detailed lecture on the technicalities of patent drafting and filing.
