CDA, SUPARCO to collaborate on satellite-based urban planning

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25 (APP):Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, held a meeting with Chairman SUPARCO, Muhammad Yousaf Khan, on Tuesday to explore avenues of cooperation in satellite-based monitoring, drone technology, and educational collaboration.

During the meeting, CDA sought technical assistance from SUPARCO to strengthen urban planning and land management mechanisms.
Chairman CDA Randhawa said that the use of advanced satellite imagery would play a vital role in resolving land disputes across various sectors, curbing illegal constructions, and monitoring encroachments more effectively.

He added that integrating satellite technology into planning processes would significantly improve development oversight in both sectoral and non-sectoral areas of the Capital.
The two organisations also discussed establishing a modern technical laboratory for CDA with the support of SUPARCO. Officials from SUPARCO assured full cooperation in equipping CDA with the tools needed to enhance its operational efficiency.
It was further agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed to promote educational collaboration between CDA Model School and SUPARCO, allowing students better exposure to space science and technological innovation.
Chairman SUPARCO Muhammad Yousaf Khan commended CDA’s rapid progress on development projects in Islamabad and reaffirmed SUPARCO’s readiness to support the authority in aligning ongoing urban development with modern technological standards.
Chairman Randhawa expressed confidence that the collaboration would open new opportunities for improving planning, monitoring, and development activities in the Federal Capital through the integration of cutting-edge geospatial technologies.
The meeting took place at the CDA Headquarters and was attended by Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, and senior officials from both organisations.
