MULTAN, Nov 25 (APP):The district administration has imposed a ban on flatbed loader rickshaws as it intensified efforts to improve road safety and prevent accidents.
In a meeting to finalize traffic management plan, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Salma Suleman, officials reviewed the growing challenge of unsafe transport practices and outlined strict measures to address them.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ghulam Mustafa Sihar, the Secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA), and the representative of the DSP Traffic. Officials agreed on a district-wide crackdown against locally modified flatbed rickshaws, which have been identified as a major cause of road accidents.
Dr. Salma Suleman issued firm instructions to take action not only against these rickshaws but also against overloaded motorcycle rickshaws operating in the city.
The DC sought daily reports on the progress of operations against unsafe rickshaws, emphasizing that vehicles responsible for past accidents should not be seen anywhere on the roads.
Highlighting seasonal risks, Dr. Suleman also made it mandatory for sugarcane-laden tractor-trolleys to use reflectors during foggy weather to ensure visibility and prevent collisions.
