SEPA holds awareness workshop on climate change policy

SUKKUR, Nov 25 (APP):The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and UNICEF organized a workshop on the Sindh Climate Change Policy 2022 here on Tuesday. Additional Commissioner Sukkur, Dr. Muhammad Amir Ansari, emphasized the importance of implementing environmental laws and policies at the district level.
Dr Ansari highlighted SEPA’s role in implementing the policy and stressed the need for a plan with performance indicators and regular reviews.
UNICEF Water and Sanitation Officer, Shakeeb Jan, discussed the serious threats posed by climate change, including health, water, food, agriculture and wildlife impacts.
SEPA Assistant Director, Dr Gul Amir Simbal, emphasized the need for collective action from departments, media, and social personalities to mitigate climate change effects.
UNICEF Consultant, Sajid Zaman, shared Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change and highlighted UNICEF’s model project in Sujawal district, which has shown positive results.
The workshop aimed to create awareness among stakeholders and discuss the implementation of the Sindh Climate Change Policy 2022 at the district level. Experts suggested incorporating climate resilience in development projects and disaster risk reduction policies.
Participants from various government departments, social organizations and the private sector attended the workshop and shared their suggestions for addressing climate change in Sindh.
