ISLAMABAD, Nov 25 (APP):Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Tuesday issued a message on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, calling violence against women a serious social and human injustice that requires strong and continued attention.
She expressed solidarity with every woman and girl in Pakistan, reaffirming that their safety and dignity remain central to the country’s development goals.
The minister highlighted that real empowerment can only be achieved when women have access to education, digital skills and economic opportunities.
She noted that these factors help women participate in national growth and ensure that they are better equipped to protect themselves, both online and offline.
Commenting on this year’s global theme — “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls” — Shaza Fatima said the message reflects an urgent need.
She pointed to the rise in online harassment, blackmail and hateful behaviour, stressing that digital spaces must not become barriers for women.
According to her, these trends demand immediate and organized responses from authorities, communities and technology stakeholders.
The minister said that creating a safe digital environment for young women and girls is a top priority.
She emphasized that technology can only support progress when women are confident that the digital world is safe and accessible to them.
She added that opening pathways for women in technology is an essential pillar for Pakistan’s digital future, as broader participation leads to stronger and more inclusive development.
Shaza Fatima also acknowledged women who have survived digital abuse and those who continue to raise their voices against it.
She said their courage encourages others to come forward and helps build awareness about the challenges women face in online spaces.
The minister reiterated that Pakistan will continue efforts to protect women’s rights and eliminate all forms of gender-based violence.
She said the government, civil society and digital sector must remain united, committed and active in addressing these issues.
The message concluded with a call for collective action to ensure that every woman and girl in Pakistan can use technology without fear and participate fully in the digital landscape.
