LAHORE, Nov 24 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday referred all petitions challenging the ban on social media platform X to the Federal Secretary for Law, for effective legislation on the matter.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum, and comprising Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, passed the orders while disposing of the petitions.
During the proceedings, Additional Attorney General Nasar Ahmad Mirza, PTA’s legal adviser Afzal Khan, officials from the Punjab Information Technology Board, and other government representatives appeared before the bench.
Chief Justice Aalia Neelum observed during the hearing that “the matter of X has been resolved.”
The court subsequently forwarded all petitions to the Federal Law Secretary for consideration and necessary legislation.
The petitions were filed by citizens including Hafiz Shakir Mahmood. The petitioners contended that the suspension of X infringes upon fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and access to information.
