LAHORE, Nov 24 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) conducted a large-scale operation across various areas of Lahore, inspecting 119 well-known food points imposing fines on thirteen outlets for multiple violations.
According to the Director General (DG) PFA Asim Javaid,the teams discarded a large quantity of adulterated milk along with over 2 maunds of expired food items recovered during the operation.
The DG said action was taken over non-compliance with previous warnings and failure to maintain mandatory operational records. He added that several prominent food outlets were found operating in extremely poor sanitary conditions, violating basic hygiene and safety rules.
Inspectors found dirty freezers, improper storage where meat and dairy items were kept together and infestation in processing areas.
Unfiltered water were being used for food preparation,while food handlers lacked mandatory medical and training certificates.
He said surprise inspections are underway across the province, targeting well-known brands as well as small and large food outlets without discrimination.
“As per the vision of Chief Minister(CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif, we were implementing a zero-tolerance policy to ensure the provision of safe and quality food,” Asim Javaid stated.
