ISLAMABAD, Nov 23 (APP):A six-member delegation of the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMA) on Sunday met with senior officials of the State Bank of Pakistan and discussed matters relating to enhance exports.
The delegation gave a detailed briefing on issues related to exports of carpets and urged the need for addressing them to enhance exports from the country.
Those who met with the senior officials of the State Bank included Chairman Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman, Patron-in-Chief Abdul Latif Malik, senior members Usman Ashraf, Shahid Hassan Sheikh, Naeem Khokhar, and Muhammad Naeem Sajid, said a press release.
The delegation urged the State Bank to issue instructions to all commercial banks to hold awareness sessions on new policies and regulations, so that not only exporters but also bank staff can be properly informed.
The officials of the State Bank of Pakistan assured the delegation that every possible step would be taken to resolve the issues highlighted during the meeting.
Meanwhile, addressing a review meeting at the Association’s office, Chairman Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman and Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmad said that all possible efforts were underway to resolve the problems of the handmade carpet industry and to increase exports.
On this occasion, issues related to the Torkham border and future strategies were also discussed.
The office-bearers of the association said that everyone is determined to restore the handmade carpet industry to its former glory, and no effort will be spared in this regard.
They urged the government to support the industry by reducing production costs, ensuring the availability of skilled workers according to industry needs and providing freight subsidies.
Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman and Riaz Ahmad said that three international exhibitions were scheduled to be held next year, which present a golden opportunity for the promotion, marketing, and expansion of exports of Pakistan’s handmade carpets.
They emphasized that preparations for active participation in these exhibitions should begin immediately.
