LAHORE, Nov 23 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Sunday conducted a major raid on a jam-making unit in Gharol village, destroying 10,000 kilograms of rotten and fungus-infested carrots and sealing the facility for producing adulterated sweet preserves intended for Lahore’s urban and suburban markets.
The operation, carried out under the directives of PFA Director General Asim Javed, exposed extremely unhygienic conditions, including dirty tanks teeming with fungus, worms, and insects. Records, medical certificates, and staff training documents were found missing, while cleanliness standards were grossly inadequate. Expired flavoring agents were in use, and jams were stored uncovered, posing serious health risks.
PFA Director General Asim Javed warned that consumption of substandard products like these could cause severe stomach and intestinal diseases. The contaminated carrots were being processed into jam at the unit before its closure.
The action is part of Chief Minister Punjab’s ongoing “Pure Punjab” mission, under which strict measures are being implemented against food adulteration to safeguard public health, he added.
