ISLAMABAD, Nov 23 (APP):An inter-provincial dacoit gang member was killed while two others were injured during cross-firing with an Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police team in the jurisdiction of Sumbal Police Station.
A police official told APP on Sunday that the gang was wanted in more than 70 serious crimes across Punjab and Islamabad and had long remained a source of fear in several districts.
He said the Sumbal police team was transporting arrested suspects — Rehman Ali, Azmat Ali and Adil Hussain — for the recovery of looted items and identification of accomplices when armed associates, already lying in wait, opened direct fire on the raiding team.
The official added that police officers remained unharmed due to bulletproof jackets and protective measures.
He said the firing by their own accomplices left the three arrested suspects injured. They were shifted to the hospital, where Rehman Ali later succumbed to his injuries.
During the operation, police recovered three snatched motorcycles belonging to PS Bhikki (Sheikhupura), PS Sumbal and PS Golra, along with weapons and ammunition used in the crimes.
A search and combing operation has been launched in the surrounding areas to track and arrest the remaining members of the gang.
