LAHORE, Nov 21 (APP):An enforcement team of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has discarded 8,400 litres of fat extracted oil, lodged an FIR and arrested two accused during an operation conducted in the Mouhanwal area.
Food safety team recovered 15 drums and three large frying pans from the illegal unit, where oil was being produced using animal fat, offal and waste materials.
Director general PFA Asim Javaid said that the accused were caught red handed while preparing fat based oil without maintaining mandatory production records and without possessing a valid food licence. He said that the seized oil also lacked the essential methanol dye required for such material.
He said that rendered fat oil extracted from offal and waste is only permissible for biodiesel production, while using it for manufacturing cooking oil is a serious offence under food safety laws.
DG further stated that strict legal action will continue against those risking public health for illicit profit. He said that PFA is committed to eliminating food adulteration and fraudulent practices in line with the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab.
He has requested the public to support the PFA in eliminating the adulteration mafia and report to the PFA on its 1223 helpline number in case of any complaints.
