Agriculture Secretary highlights potential for farm mechanization with China’s support

LAHORE, Nov 21 (APP): Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo has said that there is a vast scope for high-tech farm mechanization in the province.
He presided over the meeting of the Chinese delegation with officials of the Punjab Agriculture department at a local hotel on Friday.
The secretary said, “China’s cooperation is essential for materializing farm mechanization in the province.”
 The performance of the working groups formed between the Agriculture department and Chinese companies was comprehensively reviewed during the meeting.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary said that Punjab Agriculture department’s high level delegation during it’s visit to
China, signed five important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) which included Satellite-based crop monitoring, Revival of cotton and seed R&D, Technical assistance for establishing a Centre of Excellence and High-tech farm mechanization programme.
He stated that the recommendations for implementing these MoUs had been finalized.
He further said that Punjab CM was providing generous resources to transform agriculture in Punjab.
Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said, “China is a global leader in modern agricultural technology and the Punjab government will provide full facilitation to Chinese companies manufacturing advanced agricultural machinery.”
On the occasion, The Chinese delegation stated that practical steps had already started to adopt China’s agricultural model in Punjab and cooperation for promoting farm mechanization in the province would be further strengthened. They announced that plants for manufacturing state-of-the-art agricultural machinery would be established in Punjab.
According to the delegation, Chinese machinery manufactured locally would match the purchasing power of farmers, and equipment produced in Chinese company plants in Punjab would be tailored to local needs.
The delegation further shared that locally produced machinery would also be exported and Chinese agricultural experts would play an active role in capacity building of Punjab’s agricultural scientists.
Punjab Livestock Secretary  Ahmad Aziz Tarar also participated as a special guest.
It is pertinent to mention here that last month, a high-level delegation of the Agriculture Department, led by Minister for Agriculture Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani visited China.
