BANNU, Nov 21 (APP):At least seven members of peace committee were killed and two others injured when terrorists attacked a peace committee office in the Haved Daradariz area of Bannu, police said Friday.
The gunmen stormed the office of peace committee commander Qari Jalil late at Thursday night and opened indiscriminate firing at people there.
The indiscriminate firing resulted in death of seven people identified as Usama, Faizan, Kamran, Niaz, Wali, Sufiyan and Imdad while Kamran Khan and Muhammad Khan sustained critical wounds and hospitalized.
Police said Qari Jalil was not present at the location and remained unhurt. Police registered a case and started investigation.
The area remains under tight security surveillance following major cordon-and-search operations conducted in August and November. These Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs) targeted hideouts used by militant facilitators.
Khyber Pakthunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the attack and declared it a cowardly act of terrorism.
He said it is a malicious attempt to undermine peace and stability, adding such actions could not shake the high morale of the people. He said the nation and the state stand united against the enemies of peace and nefarious designs of attackers would be thwarted with unity.
