World animal day marked at University of Sindh

HYDERABAD, Nov 20 (APP):The University of Sindh, Jamshoro on Thursday observed “World Animal Day”, urging every member of society to play their role in protecting and safeguarding voiceless living beings.
According to a university spokesperson, an event in this regard was organized by the department of zoology and inaugurated by the vice chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Mari. The ceremony was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Main Campus) Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Shah Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Prof Dr Naheed Kaka, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Ghotto, faculty members, representatives of the livestock department and a large number of students.
Students also set up an exhibition displaying posters and photographs of environment-friendly animals to raise awareness about the threats faced by various species of animals, birds and other living creatures.
A seminar was held in this regard, focusing on the importance of animal protection and the need to promote awareness about their conservation. Addressing the participants, the vice chancellor Dr Fateh Mari said animals were eco-friendly and it was essential to take efforts to preserve their species. He noted that the concept of animal welfare helps promote wildlife protection and highlights the cruelty faced by many animals.
He urged that it was important to recognize the vital role animals play in the ecosystem. He pointed out that increasing population and the conversion of wetlands and forests into agricultural land and housing schemes had threatened the survival of many species. He added that illegal hunting has pushed several species to the brink of extinction.
The vice chancellor stressed the need to work for the welfare of all animals, particularly horses, donkeys and mules, noting that despite rising inflation and living costs, these animals play a crucial role in supporting the economy.
