BRUSSELS, Nov 20 (APP):Pakistan and Hungary on Thursday signed a renewal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance educational cooperation under the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme for the years 2026–2028, aimed at expanding academic opportunities for Pakistani students.
The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó.
The ceremony formalised the “Memorandum of Understanding Between the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Government of Hungary on Cooperation Within the Framework of the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme for the Years 2026–2028.”
Launched for Pakistan in 2015, the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme has become an important pillar of educational cooperation between the two countries.
Under the MoU, the scholarship quota, initially set at 200 per year in 2017, was doubled to 400 scholarships annually by 2023, making it the largest education scholarship allocation Hungary has extended to any partner country.
The renewed framework for 2026–28 is expected to further broaden opportunities for Pakistani students and contribute to long-term socio-economic development through access to high-quality international education.
Covering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral studies, this programme reflects the shared commitment of both countries to expanding bilateral relations and enhancing educational opportunities.
Secretary Foreign Affairs Amna Baloch and Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, were also present on the occasion.
