AIOU hosts Int’l seminar on modern interpretative trends in Tafseer al-Mizan

ISLAMABAD, Nov 18 (APP): An international faculty seminar was held on Tuesday at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on the topic “Foundations of Modern Interpretative Trends in Al-Mizan fi Tafsir al-Qur’an.”
The seminar was organized by the Department of Qur’an and Tafseer, Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Allama Iqbal Open University in collaboration with Jami’at al-Mustafa al-‘Aaliyah (Pakistan Chapter).
The session was presided over by the Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Prof. Dr Shag Mohyuddin Hashmi while the program formally began with welcoming remarks by Dr Muhammad Kazim Saleem, Head of the Research Department, al-Mustafa International University, Pakistan Chapter, said a press release.
In his address, Prof. Dr Mohyuddin Hashmi said, “Tafseer al-Mizan not only provides comprehensive and balanced guidance in the context of modern intellectual and academic debates but its scholarly depth also opens new avenues for research.”
In the present age to understand emerging trends in Qur’anic interpretation, it is essential to study such exegetical works that establish a strong connection between tradition and modernity, he added.
The speakers emphasized that in the context of contemporary intellectual challenges, renewed research on interpretative methodologies was indispensable.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr Sana Ullah Hussain, Chairman, Department of Qur’an and Tafseer, Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies. He presented a detailed discussion on modern interpretative trends and their intellectual foundations in the light of al-Mizan.
He stated that al-Mizan was a comprehensive and holistic exegesis to provides highly beneficial guidance for addressing contemporary economic, social, and intellectual challenges.
“This tafseer establishes a strong link between tradition and contemporary demands, making its study indispensable for today’s researchers and students,” he noted.
 He also emphasized the need for high-quality translations of this tafseer into various languages, especially Urdu, so that its scholarly and intellectual discourse could reach a wider audience and benefit scholars more effectively.
