MULTAN, Nov 17 (APP): The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association’s (PCGA) Central Executive Committee, in its 329th meeting held at the PCGA House on Monday, voiced deep concern over the heavy taxes that have pushed the national ginning industry into decline.
Chairing the session, PCGA Chairman Sham Lal Manglani said the association had raised the issue at every government level but failed to secure relief. Despite this, he stressed, the industry must continue to operate under the existing tax regime while encouraging farmers to increase cotton cultivation.
Manglani said stronger coordination between farmers, ginners and the government was essential to stabilize cotton production in the country. Improving cotton quality, he added, would enable both growers and ginners to secure better market prices.
Former chairman Chaudhry Waheed Arshad endorsed Manglani’s concerns and praised PCGA Sindh’s leadership for producing high-quality cotton. He warned that without quality improvement, buyers would continue to import cotton, further harming the local industry.
Participants shared proposals to strengthen the ginning sector, improve production and ensure transparency in business practices. The committee agreed that enhanced documentation, timely tax payments and a united approach were vital to addressing industry challenges.
The meeting also saw the oath-taking of newly elected Central Executive Committee members Dilip Kumar, Haji Liaqat Ali Laskani and J. Kumar (Dada). The oath was administered by former chairman Haji Muhammad Akram. Chairman Manglani congratulated the new members and expressed hope that they would contribute actively to the association’s activities.
