ISLAMABAD, Nov 17 (APP):Pakistan is set to become the centre of global scientific attention as the International Conference on Applications of Space Science and Technology (ICAST-2025) begins from November 18-20 at the Institute of Space Technology (IST) in Islamabad.
Organized jointly by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and IST, the conference carries the theme “Space for Sustainable Development,” underscoring the growing role of space-based solutions in addressing global challenges.
ICAST-2025 is expected to be one of the largest space-related gatherings in the region, drawing more than 2,000 participants, including over 70 international delegates from 25 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and Oceania.
Senior officials from global space organizations, renowned scientists, researchers, astronauts, policymakers, and industry experts will be attending the three-day event.
The conference will open with an inaugural ceremony, followed by a rich and diverse programme designed to promote dialogue, research collaboration, and knowledge exchange. Participants will engage in panel discussions, seminars, plenary sessions, masterclasses, and a series of technical sessions covering emerging trends in satellite technologies, climate monitoring, geospatial intelligence, and AI-driven applications.
A dedicated Technology Exhibition and a technical poster display will highlight cutting-edge innovations and ongoing research projects from across the world.
One of the most anticipated segments of the conference is the “Meet the Astronauts Forum,” featuring astronauts from Türkiye, Mongolia, and the United States. They will interact with students, share personal spaceflight experiences, and inspire young minds to pursue careers in space science and exploration.
In addition to the main proceedings, ICAST-2025 will also mark the celebration of GIS Day 2025, emphasizing the importance of geospatial technologies and artificial intelligence in modern decision-making and sustainable development.
The event will further host the 14th Governing Body Meeting of ISNET, bringing together member states to review progress and future plans for scientific cooperation.
The conference is also set to strengthen Pakistan’s international collaborations, with the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding with institutions from Kazakhstan, Tunisia, Senegal, Bangladesh, and Iraq.
These agreements aim to enhance joint research, capacity building, and knowledge sharing in the fields of space science and technology.
With its extensive agenda and high-profile global participation, ICAST-2025 positions Pakistan as an important platform for advancing space science dialogue and fostering partnerships that contribute to global sustainable development.
