CHINIOT, Nov 16 (APP): The Environmental Protection Department carried out a decisive operation on Sunday, tearing down illegal brick-kiln structures in Chiniot. Acting under the direction of Deputy Director Dr. Hina, enforcement teams used heavy machinery to demolish the premises of Al Makkah Bricks on Lali Road in Tehsil Lalian, as well as Kundan Bricks and Ahmed Shah Bricks in Chenab Nagar. The kilns were found operating without the mandated zigzag emission-control technology, which is required to curb smog and particulate pollution.
Dr. Hina explained that the demolition follows strict enforcement of provincial environmental statutes aimed at protecting air quality. “We are implementing the law without exception,” she said, adding that no kiln will be permitted to function without the approved zigzag system. The operation underscores the department’s commitment to reducing industrial contributions to the region’s chronic smog problem.
Witnesses reported a convoy of excavators and bulldozers moving through the sites, dismantling brick-making structures and loading debris onto trucks for disposal. The swift action was coordinated with local police to ensure safety and order during the demolition process.
The Environmental Protection Department reiterated that similar inspections will continue across the province until all brick kilns comply with the zigzag technology requirement. Officials urged kiln owners to adopt the mandated equipment promptly to avoid further legal action and contribute to cleaner air for the community.
