LAHORE, Nov 16 (APP): A ceremony was held on Sunday to distribute checks among the owners of 62 shops affected by the construction of the Neela Gumbad restoration project. With the compensation process now complete, demolition of the affected shops will begin as part of the development project.
The event, organized at the Town Hall, was focused on the restoration of Neela Gumbad and the construction of a parking plaza under the Lahar project. During the ceremony, checks were distributed to the owners of 61 shops and 9 houses that were impacted by the project.
In his address, the Vice Chairman of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) emphasized the vision of former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, stating that the restoration of historical landmarks like Neela Gumbad was a key part of his vision for Lahore. He reiterated Nawaz Sharif’s commitment to ensuring that no shopkeeper would suffer due to the project and that each would be fairly compensated for their losses.
Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, Musa Raza, stated that a total of Rs61 crore is being distributed among the affected individuals. He also assured that the government was committed to swiftly completing the compensation process and moving forward with the development work.
Waqar Ahmed, the Personal Secretary to Mian Nawaz Sharif, shared that the next project following Neela Gumbad’s restoration would be the Circular Garden. He further noted that significant progress has already been made on the Neela Gumbad Parking Plaza project, and preparations to evacuate the cycle market have been completed.
With compensation now paid, the demolition of the affected shops will begin in the coming days, marking a key step in the development and modernization of the area.
