AMC pays tribute to urology dept head

LAHORE, Nov 16 (APP): A doctor, a teacher, and a true professional never truly retire, for their service to humanity continues throughout their lives. These sentiments were echoed at a dignified farewell ceremony held on Sunday in honour of Prof. Dr. Khizar Hayat Gondal, Head of the Urology Department at Lahore General Hospital (LGH).
Addressing the gathering, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC) Principal Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal said that retiring with honour is a profound milestone for any physician and medical mentor. “Medical educators shape the professional abilities of young doctors. Teachers are the true beauty of society and will always be acknowledged as such,” he remarked.
A large number of faculty members, consultants, and medical professionals attended the ceremony to pay tribute to Prof. Gondal’s longstanding services.
Highlighting his contributions, Prof. Afzal said that Prof. Gondal elevated the Urology Department at LGH by introducing advanced medical technologies, creating a patient-friendly environment, and holding regular training workshops for young urologists. These initiatives, he noted, kept upcoming specialists aligned with global medical advancements and enhanced their clinical expertise for the direct benefit of patients.
He added that due to Prof. Gondal’s exceptional skills, patients from Punjab and other provinces sought treatment at LGH and consistently expressed satisfaction. He described him as an outstanding teacher, a highly skilled surgeon, and an excellent administrator whose compassion for patients stood as a hallmark of his character.
Senior professors also praised Prof. Gondal for modernizing the Urology Department in line with contemporary standards and for building a dynamic professional team during his tenure.
Expressing gratitude to the Principal, faculty, and Academic Council, Prof. Khizar Hayat Gondal said he would always cherish the memories of his time at the institution. He expressed hope that young urologists would continue to uphold world-class medical standards without compromise.
At the end of the ceremony, Principal Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal presented a commemorative shield and portrait to the retiring professor and conveyed best wishes for his future endeavours. Participants also offered prayers for his continued good health, happiness, and success.
