LAHORE, Nov 15 (APP): Punjab Police have intensified actions to prevent smog, air pollution, and ensure environmental safety, registering 28 cases and arresting violators in Lahore and other districts over the past 24 hours.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said fines totaling Rs 915,000 were imposed on 499 individuals, while 44 others received warnings. Reported violations included 26 cases of crop-residue burning, 227 by smoke-emitting vehicles, and five related to brick kilns.
The spokesperson added that so far this year, 2,548 cases have been registered and 2,278 violators arrested across Punjab. Fines exceeding Rs 192.3 million were imposed on 91,518 individuals, with 13,166 people issued warnings. Violations included 1,652 cases of crop-residue burning, 54,850 by smoke-emitting vehicles, 1,407 industrial breaches, and 2,117 brick kiln violations.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed officers to further accelerate anti-smog operations on highways, in industrial areas, agricultural lands, and other locations. He emphasized that under the zero-tolerance policy, strict action should be taken immediately against all who violate smog SOPs.
