Ansari welcomes establishment of Commission for protection of Journalists

KARACHI, Nov 14 (APP):The spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of Pakistan for Sindh Affairs, Barrister Raja Khaleeq-uz-Zaman Ansari, has welcomed the federal government’s decision to formally notify the Commission for the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals.
In a statement, he termed the establishment of the commission a “positive and encouraging step,” adding that today’s official notification issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of journalists. He said the commission will help provide a safer working environment for media professionals across the country.
Barrister Raja Ansari noted that journalistic bodies had long been demanding such a mechanism, and the formation of the commission, under the special directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the efforts of Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and consultations with the journalist community, demonstrate that the federal government values freedom of expression.
He added that the government would continue taking concrete measures for the freedom of press and the financial security of journalists. The health insurance system for journalists has also been expanded and strengthened, he said, reaffirming that resolving journalists’ issues remains a top priority of the government.
The spokesperson said journalists are an active pillar of Pakistani society, and ensuring their safety while performing professional duties is the responsibility of the state.
