Govt sets up Independent commission for journalists, media professionals’ protection

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14 (APP): The Federal Government has set up an independent commission for the protection of journalists and media workers under Section 12 of the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Act, 2021.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MOIB) has notified the members of the commission and which will be called the Commission for the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals (CPJMP).
According to the notification, the CPJMP will “exercise the powers and perform the functions prescribed under the Act.”
The commission includes both ex officio members and representatives from various journalist bodies across the country.
Ex officio members include the Principal Information Officer/ Executive Director General from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Director General HR (Ex-Officio) from the Ministry of Human Rights.
Ghulam Nabi Yousafzai from the Press Association of Supreme Court, Nayyer Ali from the National Press Club, Islamabad, Naveed Akbar Chaudhary, Parliamentary Reporters Association of Pakistan, Afzal Butt Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists – Barna, Hassan Abbas, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists – Barna Azeem Group, Muhammad Nawaz Raza, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists – Dastoor, Tahir Hassan Khan from Karachi Union of Journalists, Tamsela Chisti, Punjab Union of Journalists, Nadia Saboohi, Khyber Union of Journalists, and Khalil Ahmed from Balochistan Union of Journalists would be representing the journalists and media workers’ community.
