LAHORE, Nov 14 (APP):An enforcement team of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out an operation against the mafia involved in producing fake honey.
A case was registered against the accused for running the illegal and hazardous activity of preparing fake honey. A food safety team raided a counterfeit honey production unit in Badami Bagh and seized 200 litres of prepared fake honey, 100 packing bottles, 10 tins, over one maund of alum and rose, four tins of glucose and a burner.
DG Asim Javaid said that the unit was preparing fake honey using open colours, chemicals, sugar, glucose syrup and even flower petals. He said that the vigilance team traced and located the unit after conducting surveillance.
Muhammad Asim Javaid stated that the consumption of substandard and counterfeit honey is extremely harmful to human health. He said that the adulteration of honey with chemicals and artificial ingredients is completely unacceptable.
He further said that continuous operations are underway against adulteration and food fraud across Punjab. He has requested the public to support the PFA in eliminating the adulteration mafia and report to the PFA on its 1223 helpline number in case of any complaints.
