LAHORE, Nov 13 (APP):Punjab Food Authority in collaboration with Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, has introduced nutritious fruit bars for schoolchildren as part of its efforts to address child malnutrition under the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Director General PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid highlighted the importance of providing healthy food choices for children. He said that children cannot perform well in the future unless their growth and nutrition are properly supported. He emphasized the need to train parents, teachers and children about healthy eating habits in the modern era. He said that plans are underway to encourage children towards nutritious food through modern communication strategies.
The DG further stated that under the Chief Minister’s ongoing School Meal Program, 20,000 children across 70 schools are being provided meals containing 480 calories. Program also includes pre-and post-screening of children’s weight, height and body mass index, with Phase 2 nutrition report to be issued after the assessment.
He highlighted the importance of promoting healthy snacking for children, noting that market available snacks do not meet nutritional requirements. Incorporating nutritious fruit bars into children’s snacks is essential for addressing dietary gaps.
