Health Minister reviews measures to vaccinate 8.2m children against Measles-Rubella

KARACHI, Nov 13 (APP): Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechohu on Thursday chaired a high level meeting of the Provincial Steering Committee on Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign and reviewed preparations for the drive starting from Novermber 17 to 29, 2025. The campaign aims to vaccinate 8.2 million children with the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine and 8.4 million with Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) across 30 districts of Sindh.
The meeting was informed that all districts had received the vaccines before the November 15 deadline, while banners and awareness materials had also been distributed. Over 30,000 frontline workers have been deployed for the campaign, including 6,532 vaccinators, an equal number of team assistants, 393 second-level supervisors, 1,645 first-level supervisors, 5,219 additional team assistants, and 5,219 social mobilizers.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Azra Pechuho directed that all vaccinators must perform their duties diligently and achieve their daily targets without fail, warning that no negligence will be tolerated. She said vaccination has been made legally mandatory, and action will be taken against parents or institutions refusing cooperation. She further stated that licenses of non-cooperative private or public schools would be revoked and such institutions would face closure.
The minister was informed that 8.6 million MR and 9.4 million OPV doses have been distributed to divisional stores across Sindh. She directed all DHOs to monitor vaccine usage daily, maintain proper records of utilized or leftover doses, and ensure safe disposal of syringes and medical waste, with a waste management officer appointed in every Union Council
Secretary Health Rehan Baloch, Project Director EPI Dr. Raj Kumar, CEO PPHI Javed Jagirani and District Health Officers (DHOs) from all districts attended the meeting.
