PESHAWAR, Nov 13 (APP):Khyber Medical University (KMU) successfully organized a blood donation camp at its main lawn under the auspices of the Institute of Pathology and Diagnostic Medicine (IPDM) and KMU Hospital, in collaboration with the Regional Blood Centre, Peshawar.
The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, hospital consultants, and students.
To promote awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation, a Donor Motivation Session was conducted by the KMU Blood Welfare Society.
The session highlighted life-saving impact of voluntary blood donation and encouraged a culture of compassion and community service among participants.
Before donation, all volunteers underwent a comprehensive pre-donation screening, including assessments of hemoglobin (Hb) levels, weight, height, and medical history to ensure donor safety and eligibility.
On-the-spot Hb testing was conducted for students, while a hematologist provided free consultations and valuable advice on maintaining healthy Hb levels.
All collected blood will be screened for Transfusion-Transmitted Infections (TTIs) such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Malaria, and Syphilis, ensuring safe and high-quality blood for patients in need.
A “Wall of Appreciation” was also displayed at the venue, featuring remarks and messages from donors, while a friendly competition between doctors and students added a lively touch to the event.
Vice Chancellor of KMU, Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, also donated blood on the occasion.
In his remarks, he emphasized that blood donation is a noble act that can save countless precious lives.
He further stated that KMU Hospital is the first and only hospital in the province striving to eliminate replacement-based transfusions by promoting a culture of 100% voluntary, non-exchange blood donations for patients.
The camp concluded successfully, reaffirming KMU’s strong commitment to humanitarian service, community welfare, and public health promotion.
