LAHORE, Nov 12 (APP): Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has intensified its crackdown against tax defaulters across the province.
Enforcement officers in Lahore, Gujranwala and Sargodha seized records of well-known fast food and cafe chains found involved in misappropriation of sales tax. Similarly, in Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur, records of several restaurants and marquees were also checked.
PRA spokesperson said here on Wednesday, the enforcement officers seized the records of four marquees, five cafés and six restaurants during inspections. Heavy penalties will be imposed on businesses found guilty of collecting tax from customers but failing to deposit it into the government treasury.
Enforcement teams had been constituted across the province to ensure the recovery from non-filers and defaulters.
The spokesperson added that compared to the previous year, a clear increase in tax revenue collection has been recorded since the beginning of the current fiscal year. It is worth mentioning that the Punjab government has neither imposed any new taxes nor increased existing ones during the current financial year.
