UNITED NATIONS, Nov 12 (APP): The elected members of the UN Security Council, known as E10, and the five newly-elected members who will take their seats on 1 January 2026, Tuesday exchanged views on “topical issues” with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at a luncheon hosted by Pakistani Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, who is E10’s coordinator for November.
The issues, under the Security Council’s consideration, included the situation in Gaza and developments related to UN Peacekeeping, according to a press issued by the Pakistani Mission to the UN.
The Security Council has 15 members: five permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and 10 non-permanent members elected for two-year terms. Five non-permanent members are elected each year by the General Assembly to replace outgoing members, ensuring a constant rotation.
