CHITRAL, Nov 11 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday said that the government is seriously working to promote trade through the Wakhan Corridor, calling it a landmark initiative that will open new avenues of economic growth and connectivity for Chitral and the entire country.
Addressing a massive joining rally in Drosh Chitral, Governor Kundi said the Wakhan Corridor project is not merely a regional development scheme but a strategic trade route that can transform Pakistan’s economic future.
“This project will usher in a new era of prosperity, linking Pakistan with Central Asia and enhancing cross-border trade opportunities,” he said.
He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has always prioritized Chitral’s development, considering it integral to Pakistan’s progress. PPP Central General Secretary Humayun Khan, Provincial President Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, former Federal Ministers Najmuddin Khan and Malik Azmat Khan, former Provincial Minister Saleem Khan, and former MPA Ghulam Muhammad also addressed the gathering.
During the event, Tehsil Nazim Drosh Shahzada Khalid Pervez, former MPA Ghulam Muhammad, and over two dozen representatives from different union councils and political parties announced their decision to join the PPP, leaving the PTI and other groups.
Governor Kundi reaffirmed that the PPP is also pursuing the Chakdara–Lower Dir–Chitral Road project, which he termed a vital link for regional uplift and connectivity. He lauded the people of Chitral for their enduring support to the Bhutto family and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He also paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces for maintaining peace and said he would participate in the upcoming peace jirga called by the KP Assembly Speaker to ensure the province’s effective representation.
Referring to recent political developments, Governor Kundi questioned the removal of the Chief Minister from his own city, urging clarity on whether it was due to corruption or betrayal. “Pakistan needs sincere and patriotic leadership, and the country must be freed from the clutches of hypocrites,” he said.
Governor Kundi congratulated the local PPP leadership for successfully organizing the large-scale joining event and appreciated their dedication to the party’s mission.
