RAWALPINDI, Nov 11 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday destroyed a 20-kanal vegetable crop in the Chandni Chowk area of Attock after inspectors found it being cultivated with sewage water.
According to the PFA spokesman, the Rawalpindi Division team carried out the raid and discovered cauliflower and red chillies being grown with contaminated water.
He said the team ploughed the entire field with a tractor on the spot, while 200 kilograms of cauliflower and 20 kilograms of red chillies were also destroyed during the action.
Growing crops with sewage water was strictly prohibited across Punjab as “such produce poses serious health risks and can lead to the spread of various diseases”, the spokesman added.
He said the PFA’s mission was ensuring “safe food from farm to plate”, adding that the Authority was enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against farms using contaminated water and would continue inspections without let-up.
The spokesman urged citizens to report any such activity immediately by calling the PFA helpline 1223 so that prompt action could be taken.
