KP CM’s aide launches 12-day national immunization drive

KOHAT, Nov 10 (APP):Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (SACM) on Information and Public Relations, Shafi Ullah Jan on,Monday formally inaugurated the 12-day National Immunization Campaign here.
The campaign, set to run from November 17 to 29, aims to protect children across the province from measles, rubella, polio, and other deadly diseases.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the SACM’s Office in Kohat under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Rahimullah Mehsud and District Health Officer Dr. Syed Gul Said, who briefed the participants on the field arrangements and health outreach plan.
According to the district health authorities, a total of 198 vaccination teams have been mobilized to immunize 180,236 children aged 6 to 59 months against measles and rubella (MR) and 211,312 children aged 0 to 59 months with oral polio vaccine (OPV).
Mobile vaccination units will visit homes, schools, mosques, and community centers in both urban and rural areas to ensure no child is left unvaccinated.
Speaking at the occasion, Shafi Jan emphasized the provincial government’s strong commitment to public health and disease prevention, stating “This campaign is vital for protecting our children’s health, eliminating contagious diseases and building a healthier, safer society.
Parents are urged to fully cooperate with the health teams and ensure vaccination of all children up to 59 months of age.”
SACM further added that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is utilizing all available resources to strengthen public health infrastructure.
Parents have been advised to keep their EPI cards, give children a light meal before vaccination and stay briefly at the vaccination center afterward to allow immediate medical assistance in case of any reaction.
The campaign is being supported by the Federal Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).
 “This drive marks a major step toward achieving the global health goal of eliminating measles, rubella, and polio from Pakistan,” Jan concluded.
