LAHORE, Nov 09 (APP): Lahore has topped the global pollution charts, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching a hazardous 358. Areas like Ravi Road, Lower Mall, and Iqbal Town recorded alarming AQI levels, with pollution rates as high as 827. Experts warn of serious health risks, including respiratory issues and eye infections, and advise residents to limit outdoor activities and wear masks.
In response to the pollution and cold weather, the Punjab government has announced winter vacations for all schools from December 22, 2025, to January 9, 2026. Schools will reopen on January 12. This break aims to protect students from health risks posed by the smog and extreme cold. The Education Department also introduced new winter school hours, with early closures at 1:30 PM and adjustments for the second shift.
Authorities continue to urge caution as pollution levels remain dangerously high across the city.
