LAHORE, Nov 08 (APP): The Punjab Forest Department on Saturday achieved another milestone by restoring sixty-year-old banyan tree that had fallen near Kahna canal.
According to official sources here the banyan tree had been restored successfully to its original position through timely, scientific, and professional efforts by the Punjab Forest department. This unique environmental initiative had been completed under the direct supervision of the Punjab Forest department Director General.
A team of botanists, tree conservation experts, engineers and field staff through modern scientific techniques restored the tree to its original site.
Senior Provincial Minister for Information, Culture, Environment, and Tourism, Marriyum Aurangzeb, praised the team of the Forest department for their exceptional work.
She stated that the restoration of the historic tree through scientific and professional efforts was a testament to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s environmental vision.
She said, “Trees are not only a symbol of natural beauty but also an integral part of our cultural identity and natural heritage.”
Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized that protecting trees was a collective responsibility of every citizen, not just the government. She urged the public to contact the Forest department if they notice any old or falling trees so that these valuable natural assets could be preserved.
The Chief Minister’s vision under the “Green Punjab Mission” aims to protect natural heritage, restore urban forests and promote eco-friendly development projects across the province, she added.
She further said that under this mission, not only new trees were being planted, but the preservation of old, historic and rare trees was also a top priority.
Senior Minister stated that the 60-year-old banyan tree was not just a piece of wood but a living legacy. Its preservation was proof of Punjab’s commitment to environmental sustainability, she maintained.
