LAHORE, Nov 08 (APP): Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Chairman Farrukh Amal has said that young graduates should prefer entrepreneurship and get their businesses registered instead of taking jobs.
Addressing the closing ceremony of ‘Hailey Research Week’ here at Hailey College of Commerce, he said that intellectual property is the main pillar of sustainable economic development, which enables societies to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Farrukh Amal said, intellectual property protection is not only a means of preventing counterfeiting but also increases brand value and encourages innovation, adding that protecting the rights of creators and innovators creates an environment where ideas flourish and progress is possible in every field including energy, health, education and technology.
Stressing the importance of intellectual property protection in the digital era, he said that companies and businessmen should register their trademarks and logos immediately. He said that IPO Pakistan is committed to protecting the rights of the creative community and their effective enforcement.
The Chairman said, IPO has introduced a new digital system under which complaints can be filed online. This system will eliminate unnecessary rounds of offices, reduce processing time and complainants will be informed about the progress of their applications in a timely manner.
On this occasion, Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that universities must produce graduates who can meet market demands and work on their own terms.
He urged students to participate in social work along with curricular activities because practical service develops social consciousness.
The VC said that students still seek degrees merely to get jobs, but it is now time for universities to take steps to change this mindset. He emphasized that every student should actively participate in co-curricular activities, and students involved in dramatic societies also deserve encouragement. He added that students participating in welfare work and internships should be awarded academic credit.
Prof Dr Muhammad Ali noted that students learn more from such practical engagements, where successful individuals share their experiences, than from classroom instruction alone. He was optimistic that students would apply the lessons learned here in their professional lives.
Hailey College Principal Prof Dr Hafiz Zafar Ahmad thanked the participants and said that such activities would continue at HCC to promote students’ creative abilities. He mention that during the Research Week, researchers from seven countries participated, six workshops were organized and 15 partner institutions participated in the activities.
