LAHORE, Nov 08 (APP): The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has abolished the weightage of academic marks in determining merit, a historic step aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness in recruitment.
PPSC Chairman Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Abdul Aziz announced that henceforth, merit will be based solely on PPSC examination results and interviews, with increased emphasis on written exam marks. Additional marks for research work and non-clinical experience have been discontinued.
The reforms, set to take effect from January 1, 2026, are designed to create a uniform system for all candidates and eliminate disparities arising from different grading and examination methods. The decision was made in a Full Commission meeting on the recommendations of the Reform Committee, headed by Retired IG and Commission Member Arif Nawaz Khan. Secretary PPSC Afzal Ahmad noted that the move follows a comparative analysis of public service commissions internationally.
Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Abdul Aziz emphasized that the Commission is committed to transparency, impartiality, and providing equal opportunities to all candidates, marking a significant step toward a merit-based recruitment system.
