LAHORE, Nov 08 (APP): Punjab is grappling with severe smog conditions, with Lahore continuing to rank as the second most polluted city in the world. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached hazardous levels, peaking at 228 on Saturday, causing widespread health concerns.
Winds originating from India have further aggravated the situation, leading to a consistent decline in air quality across the city. In some areas, the AQI reached as high as 283, deemed dangerous for human health. Alarmingly, pollution levels were reported to be extreme in various locations, with the Forest Department on Ravi Road registering an AQI of 717, Government College University at 555, Allama Iqbal Town at 445, and FC College at 393.
Environmental experts have raised alarms over the increasing health risks, noting a rise in respiratory illnesses, eye infections, and throat diseases among Lahore’s residents. In addition to the health crisis, experts warn that the current smog levels could lead to long-term health complications if not addressed swiftly.
Meanwhile, Delhi has topped the list of the most polluted cities worldwide, with an AQI of 274. Despite the ongoing crisis, the Punjab government has stepped up its efforts to combat smog, implementing measures to reduce pollution and protect public health.
