BAHAWALPUR, Nov 08 (APP): The Health Department of Bahawalpur has ramped up its crackdown against unlicensed medical practitioners and the sale of substandard medicines, sealing dozens of unauthorized medical centers across the district.
Following directives from Provincial Minister for Health Punjab Khawaja Imran Nazir, Secretary Health and Population Department Nadia Saqib, and Special Secretary South Punjab Shahbaz Naqvi, extensive operations have been launched throughout Bahawalpur. Under the supervision of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) District Health Authority Bahawalpur, Dr. Amir Bashir, inspection teams conducted visits to 161 healthcare and medical centers.
During the inspections, 24 centers were fined, and 22 centers were sealed on the spot for violating health regulations. All violations have been referred to the Punjab Healthcare Commission and the District Quality Control Board for further legal proceedings. The operations were carried out with the collaboration of Assistant Commissioners, Deputy District Health Officers, Drug Controllers, and Deputy Drug Controllers.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO Dr. Amir Bashir emphasized that there is no place for quackery or illegal medical practices in Bahawalpur district. He highlighted that ensuring safe and high-quality healthcare for the public remains the Health Department’s top priority. He further noted that true improvement in the health sector can only be achieved by eliminating irresponsible and unqualified practitioners.
Dr. Bashir also revealed that a health department employee had been immediately suspended after a misconduct complaint, with a report forwarded to the Secretary Health for disciplinary action.
He urged the public to support the department’s ongoing campaign against quackery by seeking treatment only from registered doctors and authorized hospitals, and to report any suspicious or illegal medical practices to the District Health Authority.
